It only hurts my sentiments and I don't care about yours....!

These days our sentiments get hurt so frequently as if it is competing with 'breaking news'.

Yes, gone are the days when we Indians had good "immune" system with an excellent "Emotional Quotient" that prevented our so-called "sentiments" being hurt so easily. It was not so vulnerable and fashionable as it is today (and please....my thought has nothing to do with Modi ji, Rahul ji, any other politicians ji, secular, anti-secular, "award wapsi" gang, pre 2014 and post 2014 era).

I still remember that South Indians irrespective of the states to which they belonged, were commonly referred as "Madrasi" or "Anna" ( brother). At that point in time, none of us took it seriously, even though culturally and linguistically each of the South Indian states was and is still distinct.(Thanks to our limited knowledge, which were just restricted to Geography textbook in schools)

Same goes for Bengalis, Sindhi, brethren..they never took seriously any of the jibes on them.

Our dear Sardarjis took every potshot on them very lightly. Perhaps, the only community who used to crack jokes on themselves with a smile on their face.

There was no visible Inter-religious fight at that point in time but things started changing and you know when...it's not now or three years back...it all started with the "birth" of TV channels in every Indian household. First the intrusion of News channels (read as Entertainment) and then its cousin "the social media" started the process of making us "jihadis" irrespective of our caste, religion, sex, colour.

A bench of Justices Dipak Misra, A M Khanwilkar and M M Shantanagoudar in its order, while hearing a case under section 295A (hurting religious sentiments) of the Indian Penal Code against cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni has alerted the society in general:

"Insults to religion offered unwittingly or carelessly or without any deliberate or malicious intention to outrage the religious feelings of that class should not be charged with hurting religious sentiments"

Though the bench was referring to religious sentiments in particular but can't this be applied to all kinds of sentiments?

Isn't it strange that we live in a society, where,

My sentiment is not hurt, when I take or give bribe (isn't it linked to religious teaching indirectly)

My sentiment is not hurt, when I inflict atrocities in the name of dowry (isn't it linked to religious teaching indirectly)

My sentiment is not hurt, when I hear news about female infanticide, molestation, rape, eve teasing (isn't it linked to religious teaching indirectly)

My sentiment is not hurt when I violate traffic rules.

My sentiment is not hurt when I don't follow civic rules.

My sentiment is not hurt when I insult others in the name of preferred sexual orientation, religion, customs, traditions.

And few questions also lingers in my mind,

Can't the media house especially the so-called news channel reserve at least an hour for positive news (& forget about TRPs)?

Can't we the citizen of this country practice religion in its true sense and stay away from negativity?

Do we consider our God to be so vulnerable that it should hurt our sentiments? then we are not worshipping God but just a human being with full of emotions.

Can't the "breaking news" be replaced by "Bonding News". The word breaking itself is full of negativity.

Can't our divert our frustration to do some creative work...the way I am doing these days by writing..at least I am taking care of my health☺

Last but not least, I won't get my peace of mind until and unless I give reference to the controversial Bollywood movies. Google suggests me that there are 40 Bollywood controversial movies, which in some or the way have hurt our sentiments.. and all got released but, isn't it that we all survived!

Isn't it ridiculous that majority of us only concentrate on the controversial subject and do not allow us to ignore and move on..last week, I just posted a sarcastic post in Facebook, which read like this:

"The day before yesterday was a diplomatic win on ICJ. Today it is the successful test firing of the world’s fastest supersonic cruise missile #BrahMos from Sukhoi-30MKI. But, nothing can beat Padmavati in terms of coverage😊😊"

I don't want myself to be preachy... but the usage of this phrase "hurting my sentiments" is now at the peak of extremity... And it hurts my sentiments too!😊
