People, are you all ready to meet some of the greatest writers and speakers who will be present in India under one roof?  In just 4 days we will be witnessing the world’s largest literary festival in Jaipur, the Zee Jaipur Literature Festival, billed as the ‘largest free literary festival on Earth’, this fest is a hit among the book festivals.

Last year it hosted 1300 speakers and had around 1.2 million book lovers visit this fest from around the world.Once again, the 2017 edition of the Festival will bring together a dizzying array of voices and cerebral conversations. As they rightly say it is celebrating writers and thinkers from across the globe, this year, Jaipur is all geared up to welcome writers and speakers, historians, humanitarians, politicians, business leaders, entertainers, sports person.  Some of the popular name who will be present here includes a name like A.N. Wilson, Aarathi Prasad, Alexandra Büchler, Arefa Tehsin, Ashok Desai, Linda Colley and much more.

The best part about his festival is that the entry to meet these great minds is free which again makes it a great platform to get acquainted with some great works which otherwise is vested in the hands of only privileged class.

There can be no better way to start off the year by getting bathed in the words of wisdom by these literary stalwarts and joining them for five days of debate, discussion & dialogue.

What more, you can even be a part of this festival as a volunteer. With a brilliant line up of international and national authors and speakers, it encompasses a range of readings, talks, debates, performances, children’s workshops and interactive activities, which require detailed supervision and organisation so they really require an amazing army of volunteers who will be the interface between them, the audience and the authors!

Bharangam by National School of Drama 80

Established by our very own and very famous National School of Drama, Bharat Rang Mahotsav, abbreviated as Bharangam was established over a decade ago with the aim of stimulating the growth of theatre kala in the country. However, it expanded and inculcated international frontiers under its umbrella and is now the largest theatre festival of Asia.

Theatre is a form of art which is, in all its real form, by the people, from the people and to the people but unfortunately the culture is diminishing. In this time of  cholera, this eighteen days event is a third world experience where groups, artists, actors from all over the world come together to nurture this art form.

Theatre is but a true expression of impermanence. The beauty, the magic, the joy of coming together and evolving into a miracle called Life is the true essence of theatre. Each year we gather together to celebrate this expression, this dynamism of learning and growing…

Festival is not just a collection of performances from various regions; it is also a coming together, sharing and evolving. NSD being primarily an academic institute takes definite initiative to develop the culture of discourse. This attempt has led to the conception of three seminars- “Today in Today’s Theatre”, “Emerging Trends” and “Rediscovering the Magic of Theatre- World theatre Forum”. World Theatre Forum, is an attempt of creating a common platform for artists, researchers and scholars from all disciplines and areas, across the globe. Eminent theatre personalities as well as speakers from various Nations (Afghanistan, Armenia, India, Italy, New York, Norway, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Thailand and others) will be participating.

The National School of Drama’s annual theatre festival – will begin on February 1 with the theme “Breaking Borders”. Besides Indian theatre groups, theatre artists from 12 countries will participate in the 18-day event that will conclude on February 18. Sixty-nine plays will be performed on seven different stages, making for 150 performances that theatre aficionados can treat themselves to.

The tickets for the festival will be available online and would be released in a three-phase manner for the convenience of the audience. Tickets are priced between Rs.50 to Rs.200.

Lalbagh Flower Show Celebrating India’s Republic Day 170

Every year the Independence Day and the Republic Day is celebrated with the flower show arranged in the renowned garden of Bangalore, that is the Lalbagh Botanical Garden. The city is known for its greenery and is well known as the Garden City. This event of flower show is organized by the Department of Horticulture and Mysore Horticulture society together.

This year 2017 January 26th, marks the 204th celebration of the flower show. There are about 200 varieties of flowers and 20,000 pots used for the decoration in the show. It’s a show that attracts thousands of people to watch with its beautiful arrangements.

The major attractions of the flower show in 2017 are,

1. For the first time around 250 Cymbidium flowers are used in the show. They are grown in Sikkim and Darjeeling, and some of them are from Netherlands and Australia.

2. Butterflies recreation using roses, orchids etc.

3. Cold climate flowers are also used.

The main attraction is the Glass House arrangement which usually has distinct decoration and people come to view this from all over the city.

6. The show is open from 9 AM to 6 PM.
